Far from the urban city scapes of Australia, there's the culture of the Northerly Territory. Some of the most impressive, natural landscapes in the world can be found here and a memorable one is the Katherine Gorge, or Nitmiluk as it is otherwise known. It is found approximately 30 kilometres north east of the small town of Katherine.
Katherine Gorge sits in the 292,000 Nitmiluk National Park and is made from has a grand total of thirteen gorges, every one leading to the next. For the fit and intrepid, canoeing is the best way to explore this natural wonderland of never ending surprises. There are many journey activities on offer in Nitmiluk National Park. It is a sanctuary for nature lovers, with its rough landscapes, dramatic waterfalls and lush gorges providing an abundance of flora and fauna, including the odd freshwater crocodile. These are sometimes encircled by rangers , however , you can't take too much care.
The visitor centre is an excellent place to have lunch and adapt to re-entry back into the twenty first century again, as well as take in the freely available information as to the geological wizardry that happened to make the gorges.
