Reasons To Avoid Timeshare Vacation Packages
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
It's normal to look for ways to make your vacations more affordable. Traveling can be extremely expensive activity, one that makes it easy to spend a whole lot of money. Once you start going to theme parks every day and eating out every night, the pocketbook really takes a beating. Timeshare vacation packages are one way for travelers to cut down on hotel costs, but they're not always as great as they might first seem.
It takes a huge investment to buy a timeshare, an investment that will only be worth it in the long run. Once it is paid for, it's a lot cheaper than paying standard hotel rates. But what if you start getting tired of that particular destination? You might want to go to the mountains one year, or to a different destination.
Of course, timeshare vacation packages don't stop you from doing that, but they do present a hassle. Even if you decide not to use it, you'll still have to pay on going fees. The majority of timeshare companies do charge recurring fees in addition to the original cost of the property, so you have to be aware of what you are getting into.
Maybe the main reason to shy away from timeshares is the "time" part. You're very restricted by a strict schedule, and that often doesn't work for some individuals or families. You may not be able to take a vacation at the same time every year, but a timeshare requires you to. You might be able to sublet the property or exchange with another group if the company allows it, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to do that.
For many people, timeshare vacation packages just don't match up to vacation clubs that can offer freedom, flexibility, and savings. You can go where you want, at a time to suit you. Need to extend your vacation a few days to catch that can't-miss concert or show? Need to push it back so you can take care of an emergency at work? A timeshare won't let you do that.
