Jac is one of the most visited beaches in Costa Rica. It is located in the Puntarenas province along the central Pacific Coast. It is about two 2 hours away from San Jos. Jac is a top destination for surfers, backpackers, and land-loving resort travelers alike.
Turu Ba Ri Tropical Park
At Turu Ba Ri you can spend the day with your family, having fun in an adventurous place. The Turu Ba Ri Tropical Park is 595 acres of forest and nature. It has exclusive hiking trails, with several different plants, trees, birds, and animal wildlife. There are guided nature tours, or a tour in an overhead canopy. Turu Ba Ri features a full body ride down a 1,150 meter cable. The park also offers horseback riding trails.
In order to help solve the resulting impoverishment of the region, the government established a duty-free zone. In addition to the duty-free shopping, there are several activities that visitors can enjoy around Golfito. The area has amazing beaches such as Playa Zancudo, and the surfing paradise Pavones.
The tiny beachfront community of Pavones is the perfect destination for expert surfers. Pavones is a world-class surf spot with incredibly long left-breaking waves. Waves there hit their peak during Costa Rica's rainy season, which is from April to October and with an excellent left point where waves hold their shape, the swells here are ideal for professional surfers. The south swells coming in to Pavones turn into perfect lefts that get hollow allowing surfers on a good day to ride the waves for over 3 minutes at a time. The wave rides are so long that sometimes surfers have to walk back to the line up.
The best way to get to Pavones is via Golfito. If you choose to rent a car, it is a good idea to rent a 4-wheel drive.
Besides surfing, sport fishing is very popular here as well. There are other interesting outdoor adventures such as canopy tours, horseback riding and kite surfing. Take into consideration that accommodations at Pavones are sometimes basic but comfortable.
National Park Volcano Pos
This national park is very popular to visitors of Costa Rica. Pos Volcano National Park is an easy day trip from most locations in the central valley, and can easily be combined with other activities.
Jac has an easy access, therefore many travelers rent a car at the airport and drive out to the beach themselves. The areas around Jac are some of the most scenic in the country, with breathtaking ocean views. Once in Jac, it is a good idea to get around by foot, or rent a bike or a scooter.
