Hey, all you traveling wannabes. I've managed to find some interesting, and some not so interesting facts about a town called San Jose. Yes, you can insert your Burt Bacharach reference here -- do you know the way? Hey, I've found the way to San Jose! Granted, it gets tiresome, but if I were a little more savvy and lot more clever, I could've turned a quick reference too.
So, the remainder of this little paean to San Jose will take the form or a "did you know" format. Tiresome, to be sure, but effective at drilling home some pertinent facts and information. When was the last time you read a "did you know" article, anyway? So, if you're shacked up in any of the awesome hotels in San Jose, CA kick back, zoom in and read on with wild abandon.
Did you happen to know that San Jose ranks first in the nation for effective buying income? That's right, marketers and businesses alike should flock to San Jose to peddle their goods. The effective buying income of an average household in the city is a whopping $62,614. That's a lot of disposable income, even as the economy takes a nose-dive into the gutter.
Ok, so it's not the biggest city in these United States, but it does clock in at a respectable number ten! That's tenth in the nation and third in the Golden State, lagging behind Los Angeles and Sacramento. But here's the kicker: it has the lowest crime rate of any major city in the U.S. For a city of roughly 900,000 people, that's saying something pretty special, sorry Tennessee.
Did you know the city was founded in 1777, making it the oldest settlement in California? Did you know San Jose was home to the most amount of high-tech companies in the nation? In fact, it is at the epicenter of what is collectively known as the Silicon Valley. This also dovetails with the fact that it is one of the top three most educated places in the nation as well. What do you expect from all those IT guys?
