Raising the Bar' on Corporate Outings

Being creative when planning corporate parties is sometimes difficult, especially on a tight budget. As an event planner in Los Angeles, I know that the usual standbys are either out of budget or uninspired.
You know the routine. For a quarterly or holiday party, your office may go to a bar or club, and for off-site meetings, a hotel or golf club is a predictable venue.
Thankfully, I recently made a creative addition to my list of corporate event venues that offers good, clean fun for a fraction of the price of traditional outings. Two indoor go karting tracks in Los Angeles - one in Thousand Oaks and one in Sylmar (in the valley) are new office favorites after friendly rivalries formed at our last outing.
And the track makes it so easy to plan the parties. Each has an event planner kind of like me who handles a lot of the details of the arrangements: private rooms to accommodate any number of people, most any kind of food, beverage, and even other entertainment (Elvis impersonator, anyone?). They are very good at the nitty-gritty and their commitment to customer satisfaction is very high from what I can tell - they constantly check on events to make sure parties have everything they need.
Of course it doesn't hurt that just about everyone in the world love indoor go karting. Being indoor really takes it to another level. First, the fact that it's indoor makes the whole experience much more comfortable - no hot pavement, no hot sun: just a perfect track. And second, speaking of the tracks, they are more interesting than most 0 shaped outdoor tracks, which don't really offer drivers a challenge or opportunities to take or blow leads.
But what everyone really enjoys at the end of the day is the good-natured competition: everyone wants the best last time and office rivalries arise without fail in this competitive venue. Those who are afraid of the speed quickly warm up to the sound of the revving engine and commonly enjoy themselves the most, as they discover that they really do like go-karting.
Adding these two indoor go kart raceways to my list of corporate event venues has made me something of a hero around the office, too: a real surprise since, as you most likely know if you've planned parties, planning is generally a thankless job.
