Fantasy Baseball: No Guts, No Glory
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
In fantasy baseball, some take a different approach than others, and it's made all the difference in their success.
Basically, you can do what everyone else is doing or you can go against the grain and do what you feel it takes to win. It's a tough route to take sometimes and you may second-guess yourself or be judged negatively by others but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take the chance.
For example, there are plenty of talented players who are plugging along right now putting up solid numbers and if you didn't know their name or player history, you would pick them up in a heartbeat.
Your gut tells you to go out and grab them but then the doubt creeps in. Can I pick them up, they're only 22% owned? What will the people in my league think if I add this guy? I can't drop this guy, he's always been good, what if he turns it around?
Sometimes you have to push your doubt aside and just go for it. That's what makes the competition exciting. Taking calculated risks puts you in control of your destiny rather than sitting back and letting your season slip away.
You'll find it extremely rewarding to take a chance on a player that no one else would and seeing the great results it can bring you. You showed guts and your opponent did not and now you're reaping all the benefits.
That doesn't mean you should be foolish. Your decisions should have some statistical backing rather than just grasping at straws.
It's a balance you need to find and everyone has a different formula. The point is, don't be afraid to make some tough decisions and take a chance every now and then. You never know when one of those decisions will pay off huge.
