Does acai berry really work?
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Acai berries are tiny purple fruits that grow naturally in trees, in the deepest parts of the Amazonian rainforest. The local people are big consumers of this wonder fruit, because they know a lot of its health benefits. Acai can elevate energy levels, and lower blood pressure. It may also increase the libido. There may be even more benefits that just haven't been discovered yet.
Acai has the highest antioxidant level of any fruit known to man. Antioxidants are powerful chemicals that can cancel out the harmful effects of free radicals in the human body. There are other purplish berries (blueberries immediately come to mind) that contain a lot of these antioxidants, but acai is the biggest source.
The skin of the acai berry is packed with chemicals called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are extraordinarily powerful antioxidants, and they are also naturally found in red grapes and red wine. The fruit of the acai tree is loaded with beneficial plant sterols and fatty acids, fiber, and polyphenols.
If your cholesterol is an issue, the plant sterols found in acai can help lower it. While there's no food that will magically make you better, adding acai to your diet can make you healthier.
Add some acai juice to a glass of tea, or maybe blueberry, cranberry, or pomegranate juice. Or, if you prefer, enjoy it by itself! Capsulated acai supplements are also widely available, and there are even some nutrition bars that have acai as a main ingredient.
Numerous studies have outlined the benefits of acai supplementation. A study by the University of Florida from 2006 seems to further prove the cancer-battling nature of the acai fruit. Lab tests, done by giving cancer cells a potent shot of acai, resulted in the death of those cells. More research is being done by the day, and the outlook for acai as a cancer-fighter is very promising.
You may have seen acai in the news or on TV....on the Oprah show, Dr. Mehmet Oz did a segment on the many benefits of incorporating acai into your life. If you'd like to try it for yourself, acai is readily obtained in health food outlets, grocers, and drugstores. It doesn't matter how you consume it, but you simply must try acai- it's both tasty and beneficial!
