Need to write a resume and have no idea where to start? Sample resumes are a good source of ideas on how to create the resume in the format that is best suited for your needs, what to include in the resume you are writing and how to structure all of you information so that it is neat and easy to read.
A great avenue for finding plenty of sample resumes is the internet. The internet has countless examples of well written resumes, the majority of which are accessible for no cost at all. As the importance of this information is clear, popular techniques to add emphasis to it involve centering it on your document, making the text bold, a different font and even a different size from the rest of the text or adding it to the header section of your resume.
Once that is complete, your focus should shift to an objective if you have one. An objective can be anything from what you hope to learn with the company to what you expect to provide, achieve or accomplish once hired for the position you are looking for. This gives your resume a custom touch and lets your employer know that you have given some thought to the job you are applying for. However if you need only a bare bones resume, this step can be optional.
A list or bullet points describing your various skills relevant to the position you want to apply to is the next part of your resume. If you choose not to use an objective this section should open your resume, directly below your contact information. This section should highlight your special skills and expertise. Have you had collective years of experience in a certain industry, field or position? Here is the place to list it. Do you know more than one language? Put that down. Are you knowledgeable about specific equipment or tools required to carry out the tasks this job will ask you to do? Let them know here.
Next, there should come a section that lists your previous employers. At least the four most recent should be listed. If your job experience is not that extensive, just put down what you have experienced thus far. You will need to include the name of the companies you worked for, their addresses, the name of your immediate supervisor, his or her phone number and why you left that position. Other important details that should be mentioned are the wages you earned per hour or salary earned per month as well as a short description of what your responsibilities at each location were.
To end your resume, follow the last section with your education information. This means that you will need to write down the names of at least the last two schools you attended and state the degree, diploma or certificate you were awarded when the program was completed. Directly bellow this should be your references section. List the names of your personal and professional references and their phone numbers.
There it is. These are the most necessary aspects of a good basic resume. Be sure the sample you chose as your guide has at least all of these components to ensure that your resume will have all it needs to make the right impression.
