There is a definite stigma surrounding people who are high academic achievers. Fellow students consider them ?nerds? and ?geeks? and endlessly tease them. It is possible that their classmates are simply jealous because they realize that these ?geeks? could be their bosses in upcoming years. Knowing how to do well in school makes it possible for any student to perform well, even if they are not naturally scholastic.
Being organized for school is the most important thing for students to be successful in regardless of whether they are in kindergarten or completing a master?s degree. Be mentally alert for class and be careful to get an adequate amount of sleep every night. Show up for class on time and with all of the essential materials, such as the book, a writing utensil and a notebook. Stay up to date on all assignments and readings to be ready for tests and quizzes that could come up at any time.
It is also necessary to pay close attention to lectures, take notes and actively participate in discussions in order to be successful. If a teacher thinks something is important enough to mention in class, then it is important enough to write down. An instructor?s lecture may include information that is not in the textbook, so missing class could mean missing valuable information. When answering a question in class, know the correct answer and respond in terms that are classroom appropriate.
Read textbook assignments at home, take notes, and rewrite the additional notes received in class. These are proven methods to remembering key details that will come in handy come test time. Read and take notes in a room that is conducive to learning and does not have any distractions. The lighting should be appropriate and there should not be a gaming system, television, or radio on to serve as a diversion. Take breaks as necessary in order to remain focused and productive.
Turn in every assignment by the day that it is due to get full credit and not lose points because of lateness. When an assessment is approaching, study in advance and do not wait until the last minute. Review all materials that the instructor provides and arrange a study group so that classmates can study together. When a test or quiz is returned, go over incorrect answers so that the same mistake is not made on the final.
There is not a magic spell that can enlighten someone on how to do well in school, and it is not necessary to be a genius in order to perform well in school. They only need to be committed to excellence through attention, attendance, preparation and completion of assignments. If a student can commit to these principles, they will find that in no time their grades are going up and they are actually looking forward to going to class.
