Plan To Win
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Most successful people have realized, that, if you don't plan to win, you are planning to fail.
Has it been your privilege to meet thoughtful, honest and even brilliant young men or women who were full of ideas? Then, sadly you realized that their ideas remained on the drawing board Does that description ring a bell?
You will never find winning just "happening" by itself. There should always be a plan to win, to back up your idea. This has been repeated constantly by the Self Help Movement. But have many people really sat down and begun to make a serious plan of action? Are you the sort of person who just meanders through your existence and lets things happen hapharzardly to you all the time? That is for guaranteed, the way to failure of at best, to a mediocre life.
This isn't to negate at all the power of "being in the moment," but that does not exclude a previous plan to win. Would you think of getting on a airplane if you didnt know the destination of the plane? Of course you wouldn't do this, but that is actually what the normal person does with his life. The comparison with the aeroplane is laughable, so why don't people recognize this fact in their own lives?
When you have the courage to write down your aim, and then compile a plan as to how you can accomplish it, you are on your way. You will have a guiding star for your journey in life. You do not have to have the perfect plan at all. It would really be strange if it was perfect, but at least, it will be a place from where you can begin. Having now set your goal and made your plan to win (which of course, can be broken down into doable steps,) all that is necessary to do is to follow the plan. This is just as you would follow your satellite guidance system, or a map. Nothing, certainly could be easier than that.
This will relieve you of the anxiety of always feeling that you could never achieve your goal, especially if it is a courageous goal. Reaching your goal, has now been neatly divided into many tiny steps. If you concentrate only on the end goal, it is easy to go into complete overwhelm.
This brings to mind a young acquaintance. She was fresh out of high school and starting out on a five year science degree. She was completely and utterly shattered, the day she was given her program and when she saw all the difficult exams she had to do.
I said, "Stop counting and recounting all those exams. Just think that all you have to do is the first exam. When you succeed in that, then you can concentrate on doing the next one." She immediately felt better when I said that. Her discipline of doing just that and focusing on one exam at a time, really worked. At her graduation, I was thrilled to hear her whisper. "I got through, because I took your advice."
I must confess, I often felt anxious myself when I focused on the program. I believe, that due to the fact that she was young, and that she valued my opinion, she took my advice seriously. Her discipline and focus was definitely a great inspiration to me. Once more, this made me aware of the importance of doing things and not only of knowing what to do.
If you plan to win, this underscores the other essential factor. The element of just commencing the task and start doing it. Not having a plan, will block you from taking action. Not having your plan chopped up into doable bits, also stops you from believing you can achieve your final goal and also blocks you from acting.
You will most probably find, that the plan you eventually follow will be different from the original one. This is not strange. You will need flexibility in making your plan to win work properly. Better things often pop up, and if you are too stuck on your original plane, the Universe is not able to come in and help. The Universe, in my experience, is only too willing to give you a hand. So, go for your plan and be flexible. You wont be disappointed!
