Rabbits have notorious sweet tooths, and you want to be very careful feeding them fresh fruit and you want to be very sparing with dry food.
The next consideration is housing. Your rabbit will like a roomy cage. It should be big enough to hold a litter box and the dishes for food and water without making the space too cramped.
Look into a rabbit cage that does not have a wire bottom, as this can injure your rabbit's feet if he is on them too much. If you do end up with a wire bottom cage, simply put down some linoleum or some other structure to give him support. Make sure that your rabbit has toys in his cage as well. Cardboard boxes, old phone books and chew toys from the pet store can all let him chew to his heart's content.
Also remember that as much as your rabbit might look like couch potato, he will still need to exercise. Some people let their rabbits free-range in their home, while other people let them out for supervised playtime.
If your rabbit goes outside to play then you must supervise and keep him in a safe area. You want him to get about 2 to 3 hours of exercise a day. This will ensure he is fit and stop destructive behavior.
When you want to take good care of your new rabbit you must make sure that you are doing all the right things. Food, the proper cage and good exercise are a great start. You also should learn about proper coat care. A regular brushing works. Another consideration is with older rabbits who may need further special care.
