Immigration is an issue that involves every single one of us. We are all Americans so whether you realize it or not the decisions that administration makes regarding this effects you as well as your family. The Illegal Immigrant Statistics coming out of 2008 are bigger than ever before and that is just a sign of the fact that 2009 will be even bigger. Until immigration is dealt with it will continue to grow.
Many people may be under the impression that only certain areas such as California, Texas and Florida are truly effected by the immigration laws. It is true that they are the major problem areas as they are border states but the problem does not end only in those states alone. This is a national problem that costs the taxpayers because we pay for the health care and welfare of those illegals using the system. According to the Pew Hispanic Center the illegal population stood at 11.9 million. Fortunately that is below the high that 2007 recorded of 12 million but unfortunately studies show that the numbers will continue to increase as opposed to decrease if the system does not change. As those numbers rise and grow so will the amount of money it takes to support them here in the US.
It is important to understand that when we speak of Illegal Immigrant Statistics we are not only speaking of one nationality. The majority, 57%, do come from Mexico but the other 43 % is made of of other countries including Canada. Latin American Countries take up 24 percent, Asia, nine percent, Canada and Europe fulfill six percent and a misc countries complete the last four percent. Though the major concentration of these people begin at border states they are beginning to move into the middle of the US. Places like Illinois, New York, Georgia and North Carolina are finding their illegal immigration population increase as years go by.
Immigrants come here for many different reasons and not all fall under the negative Illegal Immigrant Statistics. Some are legally here and deserve the right to function as a visitor in the US. The illegal immigrants however, whether they came illegally or came legally and illegally stayed, make up a very large part of our society. With help from citizens willing to take action we can change these Illegal Immigrant Statistics.
