The uninsured children of Iowa have just become eligible for insurance. Governor Chet Culver just signed new legislation for children's health insurance coverage.
Hawk-i is Iowa's child insurance program and there are eligibility limits. This bill has raised the family income level so that more children are now eligible.
According to the Des Moines Register, the family income of the child may now be less than $64,000 yearly to be eligible. This is earnings up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level, it was previously at 250 percent.
This new legislation also paves the way for these children to have access to the dental coverage. The hope is that it will urge people to sign up and provide more dental care to more kids.
The lower income families have even more under this bill. They are in a position to apply for state subsidies in order to purchase individual health insurance.
