This following tip has worked for years in many industries, particularly Recruitment & Telemarketing.
Over the years we've doubtless all battled to get thru to call makers and have come up against "gatekeepers" with varying degrees of animosity!
Yet the frequency with which this tip aids you is sort of extraordinary.
Let's say your next target is somebody called Esther Harding and the person that answers is named Hayley.
Most telesales agents will say something along the lines of, "Good morning Hayley. Could I talk with Esther Harding please?"
Nevertheless the moment the surname is flagged up so is suspicion.
Instead , simply try the following.
"Hi Hayley. Is Esther free to talk?"
It's rather assumptive isn't it?
Yet you're likely to get 1 of the following 3 reactions:
- They put you through presuming Esther will know you.
- Esther is not available so you ask when would be a better time to place a call.
- You are asked what the call is in association with. You tell the truth and try to talk with Esther.
It is about giving options both to them, when highlighting the product, service or event and to yourself.
If the 1st eventuality crops up, you've got a better possibility of getting a yes or a no, so skyrocketing productivity.
One vital point for all you cynics out there.
Esther is not a common name. What if there is a David, Mick or Paul to aim towards?
The conversation is probably going to go like this:-
"Hi Hayley. Is Paul free to talk?"
"We have more than one Paul. Is it Paul Simon or Paul Gascoigne that you would like to talk with?"
"I forgot that Paul isn't a unusual name. Paul Simon please."
And you are thru!
It's basic and easy to apply as it's even saving you time by dropping each surname.
Go on. Give it a go and see if you speak with more targets!
