Proven Web Site Traffic Builders Even an Internet Novice Can Implement
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
As an Internet advisor, planner and designer for over fourteen years, one thing that causes the greatest unease among my small business clients is the concern that building Web site traffic will be too difficult, especially as there are more and more Web sites competing for customers and traffic building methods are becoming increasingly complicated.
If you have the same concerns, my recommendation is to begin where you feel at ease, and branch out from there. There are a number of activities you can start with to increase your Web site traffic that dont require any Internet knowledge at all. Here are 3 ideas:
1. Spread the Word. Tell the world about your Web site. Strangely, people seem to overlook this easy yet powerful resource. Perhaps they think that their Web site is too simple compared to some of the more extensive sites they have seen. Others just disregard this valuable source of information for people interested in learning about your product or service. Be proud of your Web site and let every person you talk to know why they should visit it.
2. T-Shirts. Display your Web site address in a bright color on a black t-shirt. Before discovering this strategy, I would wear a suit at any speaking engagement or seminar I would attend. Now, I have a stylish long sleeve shirt with my HereNextYear logo embroidered on the left front. Also, www.HereNextYear.com displays along the back collar of the shirt. If I am attending a workshop or seminar, I plan to sit front and middle. When I do, someone always comes up to me during the break to ask me about my business.
Dont cut costs at the expense of quality here. It can be some of the most powerful and direct promotion you can invest in. Get a stylish shirt and have an embroidery store reproduce a digital copy of your logo and Web site address. It is money well spent to build traffic to your Web site.
3. Give-a-Away Gifts. Give pens, magnets, cups or other trinkets to everyone you come in contact with. Give something that is related to your business. If you sell mobile phone service give a small phone case, or if you are a financial advisor hand out inexpensive calculators. The goal is to give something that will continuously remind your future clients that your business is there. So make sure you include your Web site address on everything you give away.
4. Business Cards. Most business owners are familiar with business cards and probably exchange them with other people all the time. That traditional use is not the purpose of these business cards, instead, I suggest you create cards that do nothing but direct your potential clients to your Web Site. An excellent way to do this is to create a free report with valuable information for your customers. Print an advertisement for your report on your business card, making sure that the Web site address to visit to receive it is clearly displayed. Then, give a card to everyone you meet and tack it up on every public bulletin board you see.
There are so many activities a business owner can engage to build traffic to their Web site, and some of them take a lot of time and expertise. But keep in mind that many of the tried and true promotional strategies that people have been using for years are equally effective to build traffic to your Web site. Word of mouth and personal publicity will always be one of the best advertisements for your Web site, and the good news is that it is a simple strategy you can begin immediately.
