Many years ago, there was a great promotion for Twitter marketing tools. It was considered that Twitter was one of the better ways to build a list and to get people to purchase the products you are promoting. However, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these software tools that were pushed at us to improve our sales figures? Just how good is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to determine if it will really repay your time and effort.
Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help online marketers build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to try it out. I joined programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and purchased software tools to help publicize my products. By the time I was done, I'd invested in something like eight programs to do some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.
One of these tools was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the aim that some of those people would follow me in return. Individuals who were not following me on Twitter would be automatically removed from my follow list by another software I had paid for. This way I could be following those who might follow me in return. Some of the software I purchased are not interesting enough to talk about but I will just mention a helpful program that auto-Tweeted any blog posts I made each time they were published. In the beginning, I was genuinely pleased with the end results after using the programs in combination because they really delivered on what they promised. Nonetheless, my excitement was quickly crushed when I realized that I wasn't making any money. My strategy was to post several blog entries each day and each of them was then sent straight to display on Twitter. Hoping to increase the number of daily posts, I discovered a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully get more followers.
So let me tell you all about my results. After three years utilizing these methods, I had amassed nearly 10,000 Twitter followers. You may be very pleased to achieve that number of followers, but there's more to come. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on over 15,000 blog posts in my Twitter account. Besides that, I did no extra promotion for that blog, as a matter of fact I didn't even ping the new blog entries to determine how good Twitter was could be. Exactly how 'good' it was quickly became plain: after 3 years just two affiliate sales pulled in $46.74 plus another $9.10 for Adsense. With only 2 - 4 visits per day coming from Twitter, maybe this is not surprising.
Even with about 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not enough to pull in money marketing with Twitter. As a matter of fact, in the last 3 years I have not even pulled in enough money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had invested in. So in my personal opinion, while there may be good ways to advertise on Twitter, paying for the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
