How to Make the Holiday Feeling Come Alive

Christmas has been, and I think always will be a time when the happy memories of the past and the anticipation of creating new ones for the future energize our environment. The world seems sweeter, individuals friendlier and attitudes are more positive. The season calls for us to design our homes along with any part of our life in a way that complements our festive mood. This is the best time to try modern ideas and arrangements so that we are able to also add our own touches to the memories we will be making this year instead of decorating our house like we generally have. Although we could just go to the mall, or buy a selection of quality home decor over the internet, there is quite a bit we can do for ourselves.
Let us start with the front entrance. For as long as I can remember entrance doors would always have wreaths during The holiday season. The only variation the wreaths would have from year to year is the combination of frills, pinecones and flora on it. A new idea worth trying is not to utilize wreaths but garlands instead. The garland need not be long, just drape it from the upper corners of the threshold so that it frames the upper part of the door. It doesn't need to outline the complete door just the upper sections will do. Also decorate the garland like you would your Christmas tree and it will seem like a portal to all things Christmas. On the flip side instead of the regular garland that we usually put on our mantel consider using a different method of bringing the Christmas spirit to this section of the room. A great idea would be to place different candles on it. Purchasing candles that have a Yuletide theme is something our family has been doing for a while. Candles elaborately shaped just like trees or just those simple ones in the Christmas colors of red and green will work nicely. You have the choice of organizing them in various ways, by size, theme color etc., you can also mix in fresh flowers to brighten it up. The candles should be in attractive colors so that the mantle will come alive, cranberry, red and green are great options.
Christmas tassels are not just for curtains we can also suspend them on door knobs, at the end of tables, desks or drawers. These are immediately noticed among the monotone color of the door or furniture. What I like about tassles is that it brings a little color and decadence to a room, not too much, just sufficient to make it interesting. We also need not buy new things or Christmas specific accessories just to make our homes ready for the holidays. Any items like vases, bowls, wine bottles that are tinted red or green can be organized artfully on side or center tables and as easy as that you have a Christmas themed display. Now that we are dealing with table ware, during everyday family meals this season you can still put a touch of Christmas by using accent colors to help to make the table look fun. Don't go overboard and purchase green or red dinner plates just one or two items will do such as the bowl that holds the main dish or table napkins. If you really want to go overboard, choose which Christmas recipes you plan on preparing on Christmas day, check out the colors involved, and opt for table decor that is matching the colors present in the food.
Wrapping presents is also a tradition that my family still carry out with each other. Make this year your ribbon filled year and don't be afraid to use lots of it. Think about gift wrapping the gift to appear like it is overflowing with love. Give not just the item inside the container but a smile created by the exuberance of the package.
