For example, all along if you are using birth control techniques, then you should know that it might take some time for you to get pregnant as your body needs to re-adjusts itself from being off contraception. Most medical practitioners will ask you to wait for three menstrual cycles (approx. 28 to 30 days per cycle) before trying to get pregnant.
If both you and your husband are all right physically, and you still can't get pregnant after several months of not taking the pill, then there are some things you can do to increase your chances of conception.
The best times to get pregnant are when you are ovulating, so you should time sex with your husband to your most fertile times. How can you recognize when you are ovulating? There are several ways.
In general, ovulation happens some 14 days before your next period. So you can compute when you are most fertile based on whether your menstrual period is 28, 30 or 32 days and schedule your lovemaking on those days.
To be certain, do start your sexual activity a few days before your most fertile period since the sperm can only survive for two or three days in the female's reproductive tract.
You can then measure your basal body temperature (BBT) using a basal thermometer, with that you can get a more accurate readings for determining when you are ovulating. The basal thermometer can be purchased at any drugstore.
When you wakes up in the morning, do take your basal temperature and chart it. If you observe a slight increase in BBT for two consecutive days signals that your ovulation are taking place.
You can also check your cervical mucus and determine if the discharge is egg-white like in color. If it is, then it signals that it is the best time to get pregnant. However, once the fertile period has passed, the mucus becomes sticky or even cloudy and even may disappear entirely.
Getting an ovulation predictor kit is another alternatively, which checks your urine for an increase in luteinizing hormone that occurs 24 to 48 hours before ovulation.
Having a healthy lifestyle will surely boost your chances of getting pregnant. Eat healthily, exercise regularly, manage your stress and stop bad habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol and even coffee. Taking folic acid vitamin pills at this stage is also recommended.
Doctors recommend that you take at least 400 mg of the vitamin daily a month before you start attempting to get pregnant and at least 600 mg once you are already conceiving.
If you observe these rules and put them into action faithfully, then you should be getting pregnant in no time at all. So, you better to prepare your home pregnancy tests and get ready to become a mom.
