Five Christmas Trees That Look Great In Your Home

The Christmas season is a time of joyful singing, hot cocoa, Santa Letters, visits to relatives, letters from Santa, and Christmas trees. In fact, without these things, it is just another holiday. There is nothing like the smell of hot cocoa and pine tree to get that spirit sparking and put you in the mood for Christmas. How do you know the best tree when you see it? Follow these guidelines and you cannot go wrong.

You want your Christmas to be perfect and part of that is picking out the perfect tree. There are many types of Christmas trees that you can choose from but some are better than others are. The White Fir, or Concolor Fir is one of the most aromatic trees and will make your home smell like Christmas. This beautiful little tree has a nice shape and a great green color when young and in good Christmas tree height. If you find one that has a dullish color, it means that the tree is an older one that either has not grown well, possibly under a larger tree that blocked sunlight, or it was stunted for other reasons or is just the top of a much larger tree. Look for the bright bluish color of the younger tree.

The Douglas Fir is a popular choice but has limbs that are pliable and bend easily. This tree is sometimes "shaped" before sold so check it from all sides and feel the branch tips for sticky sap. If it is trimmed too much, it will dry quickly, which is a trait that this tree has naturally, and will need to be watered frequently. As far as looks go, this is one of the prettiest trees. The needles on the Douglas are softer than most fir trees, which cuts down on accidental eye injuries that occur with the hard bristled trees. Other than being spongy and a bit dry, it makes a great tree.

The majestic Colorado blue spruce makes a fantastic Christmas tree. It has very strong, stiff limbs and a natural shape that resembles a pyramid. This is the perfect choice for a Christmas tree except for one minor disadvantage. These trees will appear either bluish, silvery, or both. This may not be evident on an overcast day or at night on a Christmas tree lot so check it carefully. If you are the type that likes an exact color scheme when decorating the tree, and blue or silver is not one of your colors, you may want to reconsider this choice. Other than that, it is the perfect fir.

The Balsam Fir is a beautiful tree with a great shape. This tree was born for Christmas with its dark needles that do not fall out or break easily. This is one of the least shedding trees you can own if you water it regularly. The Balsam Fir is a very aromatic tree with a great Christmas fragrance. The only downfall of this choice is that the limbs are rubbery and will not hold heavy ornaments towards the tips. Heavy strands of lights will also bend the limbs down, exposing bare spots.

Possibly the best Christmas tree for your home is the Fraser Fir. It has a great green color that stays true long after it is cut with a wonderful Christmas tree shape. The needles will not fall out as long as it has a steady supply of water. The limbs are spaced perfectly for hanging ornaments and are study enough for heavier ornaments. It has a great, strong pine tree aroma that will fill a larger room and the needles are softer than the standard still fir tree, cutting down on eye injuries. Overall, this is the best Christmas tree for the money
