Don't Forget The Apres Ski!
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
One of the best parts of the skiing holiday is the Apres ski. This is the skiing equivalent of golf's 19th hole and involves food, drink and good entertainment when the skiing is over. There is also a sense that the term is applied to those whose interest in skiing is geared more to the fashion and entertainment rather than the skiing itself. When looking for a good ski deal, it is worth checking out the aprs ski at your chosen resort.
What you wear for your aprs ski is important, although some skiers do appear in the outfits they have been wearing all day and their skiing boots, this is not really the thing to do. The ideal clothes to wear are what you would normally wear for an evening out, although remember that it will be cold. Layering is a good idea because you can remove layers as you start to warm up in the restaurant or bar. Boots are very important because of the terrain but ski boots should definitely not be part of the outfit.
Apres Ski takes many forms but usually includes live bands, private party nights, restaurants serving excellent food, noisy bars and flashy clubs. For those looking for a quieter time there are smaller restaurants and even tea rooms. Of course, apres ski can also mean a hot chocolate and a sandwich if you are too tired for a night on the town. It could also mean a glass of champagne and a bubble bath to soothe your aching limbs.
For those people with children there are aprs ski facilities for children at some resorts that include play zones specially designed for the younger generation and some even have baby sitting services, making it possible for mum and dad to enjoy some time on their own or enjoy the entertainment that is available.
Remember though, apres ski is just that. Do not be tempted to ski after drinking alcohol or when tired, act irresponsibly on the slopes or on the chair lifts and do not antagonise other people.
