Choosing Christmas Lights

It's that time of year again, that which a lot of people, especially the little ones, have been waiting for. That time is Christmas, and each person will give you a different reason why the season is special to him or her. Naturally, the usual shopping list will be expanded to accommodate some items that one doesn't usually buy during the year. This list will include gifts for family and friends but these days among the items that should make your list are Christmas lights. Barring a few exceptions, like people who by virtue of their religious beliefs don't believe in Christmas, from the first day in December you will be thinking ahead to Christmas day. One of the traditions involved in celebrating Christmas includes having a Christmas tree and a Christmas tree without Christmas lights is not considered a Christmas tree.
The decorating of their Christmas tree with Christmas lights, also known as twinkle lights, is something many households take quite seriously. The results are often evidence of this, with intricate details and elaborate designs often leaving onlookers in awe. The job is not usually an easy one however, and a lot of time, and in most instances money, goes into the project. This is especially true if the tree in question is a big one.
These days when purchasing Christmas lights people generally opt for two main choices, incandescent bulb lights or Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. Of the two, LED Christmas lights seem the more popular. The reason for this can be attributed to the perceived advantages that come with this particular form of lighting. One of the advantages of the LED lights is that they do not contain mercury, which means a low toxicity level and this is always good news where children are concerned. Another reason for choosing LED lights is the length of time they will last for. Whereas an incandescent bulb may have a lifetime of between 1000-2000 hours, the LED Light is estimated to last anywhere between 35000 and 50000 hours. That translates into years and years of use. One more reason for choosing LED lights is that they are considered more efficient than their incandescent counterpart. They emit more light per watt and their efficiency isn't affected by their size or shape. The ability to withstand shock or rough handling is another reason people will go for LED lights. Incandescent bulbs are fragile in comparison. Another significant reason LED lights are chosen over incandescent lights is that they radiate very little heat. Many households do not have real trees but artificial ones and the material they are made of is sometimes flammable. When a Christmas tree has its lights on all night, and sometimes all day, knowing the lights get hot over time, as incandescent bulbs do, can be worrying. Also with Christmas lights a lot of cycling, or what we call blinking, is involved. While this doesn't seem to affect the life of LED lights it tends to shorten the life of other types of lights. In addition to all this LED lights give an indication that they are failing by starting to dim, unlike incandescent bulbs, which go abruptly with no warning.
So when you go shopping this Christmas season don't forget to include Christmas lights in your purchases, whether incandescent or LED lights. It should be noted though, that a poorly lighted Christmas tree is even worse than a Christmas tree without Christmas lights. Have a peaceful and blessed Christmas when it comes.
