What Is Green Funerals Is It Less Cost Effective?

Someone asked me what is green funerals and I did not know. Being new to the green concept, this is something I have not thought about before. Lets face it; death is something most of us probably try not think about too much. However, if we care about the future of planet Earth, we should think about what happens to the remains of our loved ones and our own, one day. Burials can be traumatic and stressful, let alone very costly. It would seem that with an environmentally friendly burial, you could get around most of those issues and still care for the environment.
This concept is a new to many. The arrangements are less complicated and costly, as only biodegradable materials are used. These materials do not damage the landscape.
No expensive metal is used and embalming is not done either. Those two elements used in the traditional burial practices, are harmful to the ecosystem. The vault is also very costly, but not used in a green funeral.
Wooden caskets are used instead of metal reinforced caskets. The wood used in these is not expensive and costly. Since the vault is not required, this saves time. Markers for the grave should also be made from natural materials such as wood or stone. These materials may not be biodegradable, but they will enhance the landscape.
More than fifty million people are either cremated or buried each year. Traditional methods of disposing of dead bodies are damaging the environment. If all future burials and the past ones were eco friendly, there would be a lot less damage done to mother earth.
Some funeral directors are embracing this new concept and do not react strangely when asked what is green funerals. Perhaps the director you deal with offer these services and will be able to advise you on how to go about arranging it for you.
