Bring your dining room up to date with a contemporary chair or two.

Contemporary can mean many things, it could just mean modern and up-to-date and it could also mean simply fashionable. In short contemporary is anything new and current. Where does that leave the contemporary chair or furniture? It pretty much means you will find a massive range of styles and designs with your ‘contemporary’ furniture.
Many people will use the word contemporary to mean very modern but that could incorporate new reproduction furniture or new ‘olde worlde’ furniture. Of course people see the word contemporary and may thing ‘no that’s not for me, I’m a traditionalist’, however, whatever your style for your home is, there will be contemporary furniture to fit perfectly in it. A lot of the modern furniture is light in colour as opposed to times in the past when the darker the better seemed to be the fashion. A lot of homes have a much lighter brighter and airy look to them with laminate or wood flooring and neutral colours.
A contemporary chair wouldn’t necessarily be something that would stand out in your home or look out of place. Many interior designers mix antique with contemporary to fantastic effect and we can replicate that look. The key is not to go over the top with either type of furniture. Subtle mixing of colours and tone can give a co-ordinated look to any room and create a feeling of space and tranquillity in a home. A contemporary chair could be a beach chair you introduce or a chrome and plastic chair and they would look completely different to each other yet still be deemed ‘contemporary’.
Keeping up-to-date with home interior fashion is something many want but simply don’t have the budget to constantly change and replace things. That is where contemporary items come into their own, mix them with key pieces of furniture and you have a fresh modern look that isn’t going to be out of fashion in the next month. Whilst it’s nice to be modern and current it can be a hard slog keeping the look going and it takes constant effort. Do it the easy way with a few contemporary pieces mixed in with the rest of your furniture.
A really good example of mixing traditional and modern would be a traditional dining table mixed with a beach chair or other contemporary chair. Table and chairs don’t have to match there are no rules with décor so you can go modern and even antique in the same space. As long as you plan your match carefully the two can blend, don’t go with a very ornate traditional dining table and mix with purple plastic dining chairs. Of course if you want wacky and bizarre or just a completely one-off look go mad and mix different periods, styles, designs and colours, you could have a room that everyone envy’s or they are terrified to enter without sunglasses!
If there is one rule with home interiors and fashions it has to be ‘there are no rules’! We pick things for our homes that match our personalities and our requirements and those things are different for everyone. Our homes are filled with memories and often that means items we have brought back from travelling or have been handed down through generations. We need to make space for new and old in our homes and that is definitely going to create a contemporary look whether we want that or not. Have a look around your home, could it do with a bit of an update or even an injection of humour and fun. Mix what you have in your dining room with that contemporary chair and you have your old and new together in perfect harmony.
