Honestly, your suffering with constipation may be a way your body wants to tell you there is another underlying health issue you may want to see a medical professional about. Of course, it could also be that the constipation could be avoided by analyzing your diet, instead of only treating your symptoms.
Choosing not to look into the cause of constipation can make your condition worse. Over-the-counter treatment can cause your present digestive system disorder to get worse and may even destroy your gastrointestinal tract! In other words, regularly using medications to "cure" your constipation can make your digestive tract begin requiring artificial stimuli each time it needs to void.
The place to start is with an assessment of what you eat daily. Are you eating a healthy and balanced diet and do you eat the proper proteins and carbohydrates? Perhaps you are utilizing the rules for one of the many popular fad diets that can easily put your nutritional intake off balance in the carbohydrate or protein department? A nutritional deficiency or a lack of fiber is almost always the culprit to constipation.
If your food intake is a bit suspect, begin by cutting out the obvious suspects such as junk food and fast food. Next, be sure to fight your constipation by increasing your fiber intake. Do this naturally by adding a couple of servings of veggies to your diet or by supplementing fiber wafers and prune juice.
After that you can take a gander at your eating habits if you want to avoid constipation. Choose to drink water, using it as a natural means of adding moisture to your intestines and eat slowly and leisurely. If you choose to consume food too fast, eat on the run, while you're driving or choose to drink soft drinks, you'll make digestion even more difficult on your body.
Digestion actually begins in the mouth and as digestive enzymes are introduced into the food via the saliva, the food is prepped before entering the stomach. Fail to properly prepare the food for the nutrient uptake that is to take place further down the line, and the odds are good that the whole digestive system is put at a disadvantage. Do this often enough, and constipation is a logical consequence.
If you're on medications or take nutritional supplements, even if you do the right thing with your diet you may still have an ill functioning digestive system. It's best to ensure your medications or vitamins are not expired. Of course, you can also choose to take them with prune juice, to stimulate digestion.
Lastly, stress can be a big cause of the digestive system malfunctioning. Since you can't fully reduce your life stress; you can instead cope with stress in healthy ways. By being healthier with your stress, its impact will be lessened on your body and on gastrointestinal tract. It's quite effective to use yoga, meditation and breathing exercises to reduce stress.
