Your RV Trip: Making Plans Or Not
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
RVs are convenient. It can't be denied. That statement is irrefutable. And owning an RV is even more convenient. It makes it possible to travel on the spur of the moment. It makes it possible to indulge random whims. It makes it possible to avoid expensive flights and accommodations.
Spur of the moment travelers and meticulous planners both enjoy the convenience of the RV. While National Parks and Recreation Areas are frequently included in both types of RV trips (as discussed in the last two articles) they aren't the only basis for a fabulous RV vacation. Many RV trips are inspired by big events like weddings or reunions. Other RV trips are coordinated around visits to family members (Uncle Ed in Austin, Cousin Trey in Bastrop, your sister Eliza in San Antonio).
But there's one other option that is just perfect for RV travel. It's fun and it's zany. RV owners enjoy planning trips that are going to hit the not so exotic, unique destinations that make us smile, but are often overlooked when it comes to the official "vacation" like the world's largest ball of twine or the factory that made the biggest sugar cookie ever created. Or another take on the zany trip is to create a trip based around the teeny holidays that you might not even know about until you take the time to look it up.
Take July...there were so many things to celebrate. It started off with the 2nd. That's the halfway point of the year. Then it moved right into one of the all time favorites: Independence Day on July 4th! We all know how to celebrate that one. But from here on out it gets a little zany. July 5th is Apple Turnover Day. So the RV would need to be stopped at a mom and pop restaurant where Apple Turnovers could be had by all.
On the 18th it's National Ice Cream day. Any good RV trip planner would be able to coordinate the RV being at a fantastic ice cream shop sometime on the 18th. On the 25th it's time to celebrate lasagna. That's right. The 25th is National Lasagna Day. Stop by a fantastic Italian restaurant for some good eats or pick one up at a grocery store and cook it in the RV.
And July is both Family Golf Month and National Hot Dog Month. So there's two more items to add to the agenda. And in between fun holiday celebrations you can fit in area attractions and hot spots that suit your family.
It definitely makes for an interesting turn of events. It's not going to be a vacation that you start to discuss and have 5 other friends/family members immediately jump in and say that they did that last year or last fall or whatever. You created your own extravaganza and it's all yours. You don't depend on a tour guide and you don't even have to be efficient (unless you want to).
RVs offer so many amazing opportunities! You get to enjoy the open road. You get to change your plans on the spur of the moment if you feel like it. You get to cater to your own tastes and preferences and your own schedule. But probably most important of all is that RVers can personally create a trip that caters to their own family group.
