Securing Cargo With E Track Straps
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
When transporting materials for any distance, ensuring that the materials are securely in place is critical. If you are transporting a cargo of heavy equipment across country, it would be wise to secure the equipment to the flat of the truck using E track straps. Though these straps are simple to use, if they are not properly used there is the potential for disaster. Typically, E track straps are used to secure cargo that is being transported in an enclosed trailer. They accomplish this task by restricting the movement of the cargo while it is in transit.
The tracks and straps are composed of two separate materials. The strap is composed of a tough polyester material. These straps are then connected to a track, which is composed of durable steel. The materials that comprise the straps and tracks will determine the applications that they are best suited. After all, using the correct E track straps, for the correct application, will ensure that the cargo arrives at the intended destination in optimal condition.
The proper application of the tracks and straps is to place the desired cargo in to the enclosed trailer. If there are several pieces of cargo, such as multiple pieces of heavy equipment, each item of cargo would need to be secured in a similar fashion. The straps are placed in a manner that will reduce the movement of the material efficiently and effectively.
For heavy equipment and other devices that have a frame, the proper way to secure the vehicle would be to first slide a strap between the frame of the vehicle at the front end. The polyester strap should be wrapped around the frame at least once, and then attached the track on the other side of the trailer. The second strap would follow the same method as the first, but in the opposite direction. Now that the front end of the vehicle is secure, the back end will need to same treatment as the front.
Once both ends of the vehicle have been secured, the probability of damaging the vehicle in transit has been greatly reduced. By taking the time to properly secure the vehicles that you are transporting, you are ensuring that the cargo will arrive at the destination in the same condition as when it left. In the case of merchandise, this is a critical, and sometimes overlooked, aspect of the transportation process.
