Changing The Default Browser

Most likely if you have obtained a Windows pc, when you initially get everything all set up, then good to go and then can't wait to launch the internet browser and begin on your internet browsing journey, but the only web browser set up is Internet Explorer. This is due to the fact that Microsoft makes Windows and Internet Explorer and they obviously want you to utilize IE as your browser of preference.
Let's say you wish to work with a different application for your default internet browser. What exactly does that mean? Like numerous program files, when you click an icon, file or image, the pc will usually automatically open an application which will run it; what this means is it is set to be the default program (it will automatically utilize that program to run that file type). This is the same for the browser, example - you open your e-mail, there is hyper-link within, should you click to visit the link, usually it would open Internet Explorer (if this was set as your default).
If you are much like me and say quite a few other people out there, you just do not like nor trust Internet Explorer, you would like to be able to change the default browser to your favorite, that could be; Chrome, Firefox, or even Opera.
Next question - how to change the default browser?
This is quite easy and there are a couple of methods to get it done. First and probably the simplest, is to first download and install the web browser application you wish to use, let us use Firefox for example. Once you have downloaded and installed it, click the Firefox shortcut icon to open the internet browser; you will probably be met with with a pop-up message that tells you that Firefox is not set as the default and will ask you if you would like to change the default browser to Firefox. Click yes, and then restart the browser. And then you are done.
Another option for changing the default browser is really not that difficult; Using Vista, click your 'Start' Button, you will notice a section that says 'Default programs', move onto that area. Follow directions to set and change the default browser. Other versions of Windows you might have to navigate to the Control Panel to find the proper location to achieve this process.
As you observe, it is quite simple to do, you could change back and reset the browser you had before or even switch to a new one. Please be aware however, if you need to go back to Internet Explorer, you must ensure that you have the box ticked that says "always check to see if default browser", or else you might not receive the prompt when you open IE.
